Your Goals Are a Fraction of Your Potential
Edition #09 of THE BLUEPRINT
Happy Monday!
I will kick off today with a powerful reminder from Bill Gates:
“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years”
The potential in your future is far beyond what you might believe right now.
The viewpoint of what we can accomplish in life determines our success. If you believe you will do great things and align your life with this message, I am sure you will. So set lofty goals, dream big, and achieve!
But if you are reading THE BLUEPRINT, I bet you already know this.
The point is, what we can accomplish in the future is greater than what we can understand now because our perspective is limited to our current experience.
Said in another way: you have no idea what you are capable of achieving!
Now, consistency is necessary! I am not saying to throw goals away for the next objective that seems a little bigger. I am saying that through the pursuit and accomplishment of your goals, your abilities and self-image continues to increase. Because of this, greater opportunities are around the corner.
Many individuals face this dream killer: delayed action.
This is when your pursuits seem large and daunting and the belief that waiting for an optimal time will be best to engage (this decision made out of fear disguised as strategy).
The truth is, the longer you wait, the less time remains on the back-end of the accomplishment, this being where the greatest successes are usually found.
So, consider the goals you have today, no matter how big, to be only a fraction of your potential.
What holds most people back in life is a limiting belief in themselves. Even if their aspirations are high and they want to achieve at large, they have succumbed to the idea they aren’t good enough for it. And unless you have a perfectly unwavering confidence, this thought creeps on most of us.
It’s natural! But we are going to combat this thought with two words.
I want you to get used to saying, “That’s all?!” in regards to your goals. Right now, think of your biggest goal, and say this. This will help to wrap your mind around the accomplishment and assist in achieving it sooner. It becomes less looming and a bit more chewable.
Additionally, challenging your goals to appear smaller and less tasking adapts your mindset in two ways:
1) It reinforces your capability. You are capable of far more than this big goal, you just don’t know what is beyond it yet.
2) You view yourself as a high achiever and open up your mind to greater things.
This openness and natural curiosity coupled with a reinforced capability will make your current goals far more doable, but will place an expectation on you to achieve even more. This mindset will carry you from goal to goal and continue upgrading your potential throughout life.
To wrap-up, this is not accomplishment for accomplishment’s sake. It is important to open your mind and believe in your great potential because of the impact that comes from this. In return for the achievements, you create immense value, impact lives, and influence others to do the same, amidst many other benefits.
Take Action:
If you are ready to unlock your potential, here is your first step:
Write down your biggest, most intimidating goal. Now, challenge it. Say, ‘That’s it?!’
Break it down and achieve the goal. But importantly, your potential is only limited to your beliefs. Expect more from yourself!
Much love,
